BEST FRIENDS
More Than Friends: Storm & Rainey on Life, Lies, and Recovery
The foundation of Coffee Lies was laid in 2009 at the wheel of a transit bus. That year, Rainey trained Storm in their shared position driving senior transit—a workplace connection that immediately sparked a deep and lasting friendship.
Since that first introduction, Storm and Rainey have become lifelong friends and essential support systems for one another. They’ve navigated the full spectrum of life’s realities, from single parenthood and major career shifts to the demanding, deeply personal work of recovery and healing. Through every up and every down, their bond has been defined by honest love and unwavering support.
Today, they channel that history and commitment into real talk about the ongoing process of change. They are not clinicians or licensed professionals; they are two women committed to sharing their personal journeys—victories over codependency, addiction, anger, and trauma—to show others what is possible.
Storm and Rainey believe that true connection comes from vulnerability. Through the Coffee Lies podcast, they offer open ears, practical insight, and a safe, nonjudgmental space. Their mission is simple: to give back and offer peer guidance to anyone looking for a trustworthy place to hear a real story and find support for their next step.

Rainey May: Breaking the Cycle, Becoming Herself
Born Amanda, Rainey's early life in an Ontario small town was shaped by a profound search for unconditional love in a world that often presented it as conditional. Having endured abuse hidden behind closed doors, she learned early that pain could be disguised as care, fostering an ache for connection that eventually led to a pattern of codependency. By age 19, she was a mother of two, desperately trying to build a stable life and a family that would finally offer the rescue she longed for.
When her marriage unravelled in her 30s, Rainey was forced to confront the hard truth: she was wearing a mask. She had projected strength while secretly crumbling, surviving in shadows without the tools to find her own light. The deepest regret of those years wasn't malice, but the pain caused by being a lost person who hadn't yet learned how to truly love herself.
At 46, and now making her home in Alberta after moving two years ago, Rainey has achieved the profound, difficult victory of breaking the cycle of abuse. She has fought to become the right person for her children and her husband, Rick. Changing her name to Rainey was not an attempt to erase the past, but a deliberate declaration of the woman she has fought to become. It honors the journey, reveals her truth, and signifies a chosen, clear, and deeply earned future.
While the cycle of abuse has been broken, Rainey knows healing isn't a finish line. She remains committed to the daily work of her codependency healing journey, showing up determined to be the best "me for me." As a co-host of the Coffee Lies podcast, she brings that raw honesty and lived experience with trauma and codependency to the microphone, offering peer support and inspiration for anyone who needs to hear this simple, beautiful truth: It is possible to find your way home in yourself.

"I don't just talk about change; I live it.
Peer support for your victory."
I grew up in a small town, raised by hardworking parents and an older brother. As a young adult I left home to pursue college, became a single mother, and built a life through challenges that taught me resilience and humility. Over the years I worked in social services — including with people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerabilities — and those roles, combined with my personal journey, shaped how I show up for others: candid, compassionate, and solutions-focused.
Today I’m five years in recovery. I’ve found victory over codependency, addiction, anger, and have committed to the work of forgiveness and grief. In 2025 I began co-leading a Step study — a role that lights me up — I co-host a podcast. I have a TikTok channel, and together, with my lifelong friend Rainey, where we are here to share stories, tools, and hope.
We are not clinicians; we are two women offering peer support, practical insight, and encouragement from lived experience.
Helping people is my passion. I bring honest storytelling, real-world experience in social work, and a commitment to creating safe, nonjudgmental space where people can find resources, community, and next steps.
If you’re looking for peer guidance, a speaker for recovery events, or simply a trustworthy place to hear a real story of change, I’d love to connect.
